Loft insulation in Aldridge: 70m² of Poor Insulation Replaced With 300mm Mineral Wool
In August 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd replaced the poor loft insulation in a 70m² loft in Aldridge, Walsall, West Midlands. The team removed all the old insulation, cleaned out between the joists and laid new 300mm Knauf mineral wool, working around the homeowner's renovation and backed by a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
Our surveyor found the existing loft insulation was poor across the 70m² loft floor. It was not worth topping up: it all needed to come out before new insulation could go in.
The house was also being renovated, so the work had to fit around the builders. The old insulation came out on one visit and the new insulation went in a few weeks later.
What we did
- Free survey: measured the loft at 70m² and found the old insulation was poor and needed removing.
- Visit one: removed all the old loft insulation.
- Cleaned out between the joists so the new insulation could sit flat.
- Left the loft clear while the homeowner's renovation work went ahead.
- Visit two, a few weeks later: laid new Knauf mineral wool to 300mm across the 70m² floor.
- Took all the waste away.
The result
The 70m² loft now has 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool in place of the poor old insulation, laid onto clean joists. Splitting the job into two visits kept it out of the way of the renovation.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee.
Loft insulation in Aldridge: questions we get asked
When does old loft insulation need removing rather than topping up?
If the old insulation is poor, dirty or badly flattened, a top-up just sits on a weak base. In this Aldridge loft our surveyor found the existing insulation was poor, so all 70m² came out and the joists were cleaned before new 300mm mineral wool went down.
Can loft insulation be done while the house is being renovated?
Yes. In Aldridge the house was mid-renovation, so we split the job. The old insulation came out on one visit and the new 300mm went in a few weeks later. That kept the loft clear for the builders and meant the new insulation stayed clean.
How deep should loft insulation be?
Current guidance for lofts is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. In this Aldridge loft we laid 300mm of Knauf mineral wool, one layer between the joists and one across them, so the tops of the timbers are covered and heat cannot escape along them.
Is the survey free and how is the job priced?
Yes. An EcoTrust surveyor measures the loft, checks the condition of what is up there and gives you a fixed written price before anything is booked. There is no obligation, and if a top-up will do instead of a full replacement we will tell you.
Do you cover the rest of Aldridge and the West Midlands?
