What it involves
Most of our roofing work comes out of something else. We go up to price insulation or spray foam removal, and from inside the loft you can see daylight through a slipped tile, a failed valley or perished felt at the eaves.
Because we are looking at the roof from underneath as well as above, we tend to find the actual leak rather than the wet patch it produced three metres away.
What we get called out for
Slipped or missing tiles and slates, and the leak that follows.
Ridge and verge pointing that has cracked and let water in along the line of the roof.
Gutters and downpipes that have failed, which is behind a surprising share of the penetrating damp we are asked to look at.
Blocked or missing eaves ventilation, which is what turns a well-insulated loft into a condensation problem.

The things everyone asks
Do you do full re-roofs?
Our work is repairs, pointing, gutters and ventilation, usually alongside insulation. If a roof genuinely needs replacing we will say so rather than patch it, but a full re-roof is not our speciality.
I have a damp patch on the ceiling. Is that the roof?
Often, but not always, and water travels before it shows. That is why we look from inside the loft first — the stain on the ceiling is rarely directly under the fault.
Can you look at the roof while you are doing my insulation?
Yes, and we usually do. If we spot something from inside the loft we will show you the photographs and price it separately, with no obligation.
