Loft insulation in Denbigh: 105m² Loft Stripped and Insulated to 300mm in 2 Days
In June 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd stripped the old insulation out of a 105m² loft in Denbigh, Denbighshire (LL16), and cleaned out between every joist. The team then laid new Knauf mineral wool loft insulation to 300mm across the whole floor in 2 days, backed by a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
Our surveyor measured the loft at 105m². The old insulation across the floor was worn out and full of dust and debris, so it had to come out before anything new went down.
The loft had no ladder and no lights, which made it a slow, awkward space to work in. The timber around a glazed panel in the loft floor also needed treating while the floor was clear.
What we did
- Free survey: measured the loft at 105m² and agreed a written price for removal, clean-up and 300mm of new insulation.
- Day one: bagged up and removed all the old loft insulation across the 105m² floor.
- Cleaned out between the joists so the new insulation could sit flat on a clean ceiling.
- Treated the timber around the glazed panel in the loft floor.
- Day two: laid new Knauf mineral wool to a full 300mm across the whole loft.
- Took all the old insulation and waste away.
The result
The full 105m² loft now has 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool, laid on clean joist bays with no gaps. The job took 2 days from start to finish.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee, and the homeowner has photos of the loft at every stage.
Loft insulation in Denbigh: questions we get asked
Should old loft insulation be removed before new is laid?
Often, yes. Old insulation that is flattened, dusty or full of debris holds little heat, and laying new wool on top hides the problem. In Denbigh we took all the old insulation out of the 105m² loft and cleaned between the joists before any new Knauf wool went down.
How long does it take to replace loft insulation?
Most lofts take one or two days. Removing old insulation and cleaning between the joists adds time, so this 105m² Denbigh loft took two: strip-out and clean-up on day one, then 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool across the whole floor on day two.
Can you insulate a loft with no ladder or lights?
Yes. We bring our own access and lighting, so a loft with no ladder or lights is not a problem. The Denbigh loft had neither, and the team still cleared, cleaned and insulated all 105m² of it safely in two days.
How deep should loft insulation be?
Current guidance for lofts is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. In Denbigh we laid 300mm of Knauf mineral wool, one layer between the joists and a second across them, so the timbers are covered and heat cannot escape along them.
