Loft insulation in Heswall: 50m² Loft Insulated to 300mm in One Day
In September 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd insulated a 50m² loft in Heswall, Wirral, Merseyside, bringing it up to 300mm to meet current building regs guidance. The team worked right into the eave areas and reinstated a 5m² section at the apex loft hatch, finishing the whole job in one day with a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
The homeowner in Heswall wanted the loft brought up to current building regs. Our surveyor measured 50m² of loft floor that needed topping up to 300mm.
The awkward parts were the eave areas, which are tight to work in, and a 5m² section at the apex loft hatch that had to be taken up and reinstated. Skipping the eaves leaves a cold strip around the edge of the house, so they had to be done properly.
What we did
- Free survey: measured the loft at 50m² and agreed a written price to bring it up to 300mm.
- Took up the 5m² section at the apex loft hatch so that area could be insulated too.
- Laid new mineral wool across the 50m² loft floor to a total depth of 300mm.
- Worked right into the eave areas so there was no uninsulated strip at the edges.
- Reinstated the apex hatch section, cleared up and took the waste away.
The result
The 50m² loft now has 300mm of mineral wool across the whole floor, eaves included, in line with current building regs guidance. The job was finished in a single day.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee, issued on completion on 30 September 2026.
Loft insulation in Heswall: questions we get asked
How much loft insulation do building regs ask for?
Current guidance for lofts is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. Many older lofts on the Wirral still have 100mm or less. In Heswall we brought a 50m² loft up to 300mm, so it now matches what is expected for a new installation.
How long does it take to insulate a loft?
Most average lofts take one day. This 50m² loft in Heswall, including the eave areas and a 5m² section at the apex loft hatch, was done start to finish in a single day. Bigger lofts, or lofts that need clearing first, can take two.
Why do the eaves matter when insulating a loft?
The eaves are where the roof meets the walls, and they are the hardest part to reach. If they are left bare you get a cold strip around the edge of every ceiling below. On the Heswall job we worked right into the eaves to close that gap.
Is the survey free and do I get a fixed price?
Yes. An EcoTrust surveyor measures the loft, checks the depth of what is already there and gives you a written price before anything is booked. There is no obligation, and if a top-up is not worth doing we will tell you.
