In October 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd stripped the old 100mm loft insulation from a 135m² loft in Rushton Spencer, near Macclesfield, on the Staffordshire side of the border. The team then laid new Knauf mineral wool loft insulation to a full 300mm across the whole floor in 2 days, backed by a 10-year guarantee.
The problem
The loft had only around 100mm of old insulation across a large 135m² floor, well short of the 270mm to 300mm recommended today. Topping up over tired, flattened wool can leave gaps and cold spots.
Access was also tricky. The loft could only be reached through the roof area, so our surveyor noted that the team would need 10m ladders to get in safely.
What we did

- Day one: brought 10m ladders to reach the loft through the roof area.
- Stripped out the old 100mm insulation and bagged it, taking the loft back to the bare joists and ceiling.
- Laid the first layer of new Knauf mineral wool between the joists.
- Day two: laid the second layer across the joists to a full 300mm over the whole 135m² floor.
- Took all the old insulation and waste away.
The result
The full 135m² loft floor now has 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool in place of the old 100mm, laid in two layers so the tops of the joists are covered. The job took 2 days.
