Loft insulation in Warrington: 84m² Loft Cleared and Insulated to 300mm
In September 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd cleared an 84m² loft in Appleton, Warrington, Cheshire, back to the bare joists, removing old boards, stored items and debris. The team then laid new mineral wool loft insulation to a full 300mm across the whole floor in 2 days, backed by a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
The homeowner wanted the loft done properly from scratch. Our surveyor measured the loft floor at 84m², with old boards, stored items and debris spread across the joists.
Laying new insulation over that would have left gaps and squashed patches, and squashed insulation loses much of its performance. The homeowner also wanted everything taken out, so the space was clear and the job could be checked.
What we did
- Free survey: measured the loft at 84m² and agreed a written price for clearance and 300mm of new insulation.
- Day one: cleared everything out of the loft, including old boards, stored items and debris.
- Took the loft back to the bare joists so the new insulation could sit evenly.
- Took moisture readings in the roof space while the loft was empty.
- Day two: laid new mineral wool between and over the joists to a full 300mm across the 84m² floor.
- Bagged up all the waste and took it away.
The result
The whole 84m² loft floor now has 300mm of new mineral wool, laid evenly with no gaps or compressed areas. The job took 2 days from start to finish.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee, and the homeowner has before and after photos of the loft for their records.
Loft insulation in Warrington: questions we get asked
How long does loft insulation take in a typical house?
A clear loft of average size usually takes one day. If old boards, stored items or worn insulation have to come out first, allow two days. This 84m² Warrington loft took two: clearance on day one and 300mm of new mineral wool on day two.
How deep should loft insulation be?
Current guidance for lofts is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. In Warrington we laid 300mm, one layer between the joists and a second layer across them, so the tops of the joists are covered and heat cannot escape through gaps along the timber.
Do you remove old loft insulation and boards first?
Yes, when it is needed. Laying new wool over old boards, debris or squashed insulation leaves gaps and cold spots. On this job we cleared the whole loft back to the joists, bagged every bit of waste and took it away before the new insulation went down.
Is the survey free and how is the job priced?
Yes. An EcoTrust surveyor measures the loft, checks what is up there now and gives you a fixed written price before anything is booked. There is no obligation, and if the job is not worth doing we will tell you so.
Do you cover the rest of Warrington and Cheshire?
Yes. We insulate lofts across Warrington, including Appleton, Stockton Heath, Lymm and Great Sankey, and across Cheshire and most of England from our Manchester and Sevenoaks offices. Book a free survey online or call 0800 870 8086 and we will confirm a date.
