Loft insulation in Worcester: 50m² Loft Cleared and Reinsulated to 300mm
In July 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd removed the old loft insulation from a 50m² loft in Fernhill Heath, Worcester, Worcestershire, cleaned out between the joists and took away old pipework. The team then reinstalled Knauf mineral wool to a full 300mm in one day, backed by a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
The loft in this Fernhill Heath home had old insulation that needed to come out, with dust and debris between the joists and redundant pipework left in the roof space.
New insulation laid over all of that would not sit properly, so the homeowner asked for the loft to be cleared and cleaned first and then reinsulated to 300mm across the 50m² floor.
What we did
- Free survey: measured the loft at 50m² and agreed a fixed written price for removal and reinstallation.
- Lifted out the old loft insulation, keeping any that was still usable.
- Took down the redundant pipework and bagged it up for scrap.
- Cleaned out between the joists so the new insulation could sit flat.
- Laid Knauf mineral wool between and across the joists to a full 300mm, reusing the sound insulation where it fitted.
- Bagged the waste and left the loft clean.
The result
The 50m² loft now has an even 300mm of mineral wool across the whole floor, with the joists covered and no gaps. The job was done in one day.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee.
Loft insulation in Worcester: questions we get asked
Can old loft insulation be reused?
Sometimes. If parts of it are clean, dry and still springy they can go back in under the new layer. On this Worcester job we kept the usable insulation, cleaned out between the joists and topped everything up with Knauf mineral wool to a full 300mm.
How long does it take to replace loft insulation?
Most lofts take one day. This 50m² loft in Fernhill Heath, Worcester was cleared, cleaned between the joists and reinsulated to 300mm in a single day. Bigger lofts, or ones full of boards and stored items, can take two days.
Do you take away old pipework and rubbish from the loft?
Yes. Old tanks, pipework, debris and worn insulation can all come out as part of the job. In this Worcester loft the redundant pipework was taken down and bagged up for scrap, and all the waste was cleared before the new insulation went down.
How deep should loft insulation be?
Current guidance is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. We always lay Knauf mineral wool to 300mm: one layer between the joists and a second across them, so the timber tops are covered and heat cannot escape along them.
