Loft insulation in Worksop: 56m² of Old Fibreglass Replaced With 300mm Mineral Wool in One Day

In September 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd removed the old fibreglass insulation from a 56m² loft in Worksop, Nottinghamshire (S81). In one day the team laid 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool loft insulation, tidied the items stored in the loft and patched the roof from inside with membrane to keep water out.

Before: old fibreglass along the length of the loft

The problem

Our surveyor measured the loft at 56m². The old fibreglass between the joists was thin, flattened and tangled with cables, so it was doing little to keep heat in.

The roof also needed a patch from the inside to stop water getting in, and the items stored in the loft needed tidying so the floor could be reached.

What we did

  1. Free survey: measured the loft at 56m² and agreed a written price for removal, new insulation and a membrane patch.
  2. Tidied the items already stored in the loft to clear the floor.
  3. Removed the old fibreglass insulation from between the joists.
  4. Laid 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool across the 56m² loft floor.
  5. Patched the roof from inside with membrane to help prevent water ingress.

The result

The full 56m² Worksop loft now has 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool in place of the old, flattened fibreglass. The whole job was done in one day on 28 September 2026.

The new insulation is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee.

Loft insulation in Worksop: questions we get asked

Should old fibreglass loft insulation be removed?

If it is thin, flattened or tangled with cables, yes. It does little and new rolls laid over it sit unevenly. In this 56m² Worksop loft we removed the old fibreglass first, then laid 300mm of new Knauf mineral wool across the whole floor in one day.

How deep should loft insulation be?

Current guidance for lofts is around 270mm to 300mm of mineral wool. In Worksop we laid 300mm across the 56m² loft floor, which brings the loft up to today's recommended depth after years with old, flattened fibreglass that had lost most of its thickness.

How long does it take to insulate a 56m² loft?

This Worksop loft took one day. That covered tidying the stored items, removing the old fibreglass, laying 300mm of new mineral wool across 56m² and patching the roof from inside. Larger lofts, heavy clearances or boarding can add a day, and we confirm timings at survey.

Can you fix small roof leaks while insulating the loft?

Often, yes. If the surveyor spots a gap where water could get in, we can patch it from inside with membrane while we are in the loft. On this Worksop job we did that alongside the insulation. Bigger roof repairs are quoted separately after an inspection.
