Spray foam removal in Shrewsbury: 64m² of Open Cell Spray Foam Removed From Bitumen Felt in 2 Days
In July 2026, EcoTrust Roofing & Insulation Ltd removed 64m² of open cell spray foam from a loft in Copthorne, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, where it had been sprayed onto the bitumen roof felt about 4 years earlier. After 2 days of spray foam removal the felt and roof timbers are back on show, and the work carries a 10-year guarantee.

The problem
Open cell spray foam had been sprayed across the underside of the roof about 4 years before, straight onto the old bitumen felt. Our surveyor measured it at 64m², and the homeowner wanted it all out.
With the foam in place, the felt and roof timbers could not be seen or checked. Many lenders and surveyors are cautious about spray foam for that reason. The loft also had no loft ladder and no light, so access had to be planned.
What we did
- Free survey: measured 64m² of open cell spray foam on the underside of the roof and noted the access.
- Set up our own ladders and work lights, as the loft had no ladder or light.
- Removed the open cell foam from between the rafters and off the bitumen felt.
- Cleared the foam back to the felt and timbers across all 64m².
- Bagged all the foam and took it away.
- Left the felt and roof timbers on show so they can be inspected.
The result
All 64m² of open cell spray foam is gone, cleared over 2 days. The bitumen felt and the roof timbers are visible again and ready for a surveyor to inspect.
The work is covered by EcoTrust's 10-year guarantee.
